Abstract

The performance of solar panels is influenced by solar radiation intensity and operating temperature, both of which can limit the power output of a photovoltaic system. This study aims to analyze the enhancement of solar panel performance through the integration of a Fresnel lens and a heatsink, while also developing an Internet of Things (IoT)-based remote monitoring system. The research was conducted via direct observation, comparing a standard solar panel with a modified panel across 17 measurement points between 07:30 and 15:30 WIB. The monitoring system was designed using an Arduino Uno, NodeMCU ESP8266, INA219 sensor, DHT11 sensor, and the Blynk platform to track panel voltage, current, and temperature in real time. Test results indicate that the modified panel produced an average open-circuit voltage of 10.32 V—a 2.45% increase over the 10.07 V recorded for the standard panel. The average short-circuit current increased by 10.7%, rising from 0.324 A to 0.359 A.
Furthermore, the average panel temperature decreased by 7.82 °C, from 43.38 °C to 35.56 °C. The indicative power calculated by multiplying the open-circuit voltage and short-circuit current increased by 13.4%, from 3.30 W to 3.75 W. These findings demonstrate the potential of combining a Fresnel lens and a heatsink to boost electrical output while simultaneously managing panel temperature. The developed IoT system also enables remote monitoring of operational parameters. Nevertheless, further testing incorporating actual power measurements, solar irradiance data, and repeated experiments is required to validate the improvement in system efficiency.
